NBC Takes A Leap With New Urban Comedy Series!

We hear that the NBC Network is about to stock up with more comedy on their slate to assist in the Jay Leno sweepstakes, and their new gamble is now in the urban field. Word has it that actor Don Cheadle (of Crash and The Ocean 11 films) and Boondocks creator Aaron McGruder were recently tapped to head up a new half-hour comedy series about brothers who reunite after a long dispute to open a private security company to their own dismay. The laughter will be based upon how the brothers interact with each other as the story line develops. McGruder will write for the show and be an Executive Producer along with Cheadle, and Universal is Producing the show. No word yet on who will portray the other brother for the show.

We are not sure what this means for FOX’s new sitcom Brothers that stars Michael Strahan and Daryl “Chill” Mitchell, meaning if two urban show about brothers can coexist, but hopefully both shows will be around so we can talk about it.

Up next for Cheadle is the very much anticipated films Iron Man 2, The Avengers and Brooklyn's Finest and McGruder is currently taping and putting the finishing touches on a new season of The Boondocks.

The Janky Promoters Finally Opens To A Very Limited Release

We just got word that the new film from Ice Cube and Mike Epps, one of the most anticipated comedy films of the year titled Janky Promoters, was finally released- and it slipped right past us BECAUSE the studio released it with a very limited theater run. The studio, Third Rail Releasing, didn’t expect the very limited release and made very many moves to get it released theatrically so it wouldn’t go straight to the DVD shelves. As you may already know, the film had its release date moved at least three times- and that’s just the amount of times we know of.

The film also stars Young Jeezy, Lahmard Tate, Julio Oscar Mechoso, Tamala Jones, "Lil' JJ" James Lewis, Glenn Plummer, and Juanita Jennings as it follows the shenanigans of a pair of shady concert promoters (Cube and Epps), self-described "Modesto's finest," who get in over their heads when they get a shot at booking a big-name hip-hop act. As with any film starring Epps and Cube, complications come in the form of a pot-growing neighborhood nemesis named Mondo and Cube's character's son (Nickelodeon star Little JJ), who is under contract with the old man. From this point on there are many similarities to many of their past films, but we will let you be the judge. Check out the film in a very limited release.
